Balancing It All: How WLP Helped a Single Mom Stay on Track with Support and Stability

An IM employee and mother of five reached out, overwhelmed by the unexpected back-to-school expenses. Previously a stay-at-home mom, she’s been learning to manage bills and budget on her own since her divorce.

On top of caring for her kids, she’s attending school full-time to become a nurse, paying for her education out of pocket while juggling the challenges of daily life. Though excited about her progress and education goals for this winter, the rising costs of school supplies and household expenses caught her off guard.

During a budgeting review, the client shared concerns about affording her car loan, trash bill, and monthly payments to Xcel Energy, despite being on a payment plan. She was applying for a Humanitarian Loan to get back on track but still needed more immediate relief.

With the loan, she was able to catch up on her car loan and trash bill. Through WorkLife Partnership, we covered her Xcel bill in full, freeing up $230 per month in her budget. The Navigator also connected her to local food pantries and scholarship resources to help her further reduce costs.

The client expressed immense relief, sharing how the combination of WLP’s assistance and the Humanitarian Loan made a significant difference in her life. Thanks to the support, she’s now feeling more stable and ready to move forward with her goals.
